It's not the cost of the transmission, it's the cost of developing one to fit the new cars when only XX cars will be made with it. Bad return on that R&D required to offer the option in the first place.
That 599 is a gem but the seats look out of place. I bet the interior is just as much to blame for the tough sale as the transmission. I like black and red interior, but that one seems goofy IMO, like the seats came from a different car!

^I kind of like how it tones down the interior. And from a durability standpoint, all the surfaces your hand touches are black, except for the door pulls and e-brake, which is a huge +. The red interiors start looking real tired after like 10K miles / 5 years of use.
Really the only thing I don't like about that car are the Scuderia Shields, they are oddly small looking and a little lost on the fenders of the 599.
