Aventador...SOLD OUT
#51
Sadly this has gotten derailed but I do see the logic re: the Aventador not being a "supercar". Depends on how you define it. In my mind it's definitely not in the Zonda, Ksegg, Bugatti, CGT, McLaren F1, Enzo echelon of cars.
Semantics notwithstanding, those cars are definitely a cut above the Aventador in price/exclusivity.

It doesn't mean the Aventador isn't a supercar though, even if Aventador owners don't own baby giraffes.

I got this off wikipedia:
Supercar is a term used most often to describe an ultra-high-end "exotic" automobile, whose performance is superior to that of its contemporaries. It has been defined specifically as "a very expensive, fast or powerful car".[1] Stated in more general terms: "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match," "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own".[2] However, the proper application of the term is subjective and disputed, especially among enthusiasts. So-called vehicles are typically out of the ordinary and are marketed by automakers to be perceived by the public as unusual. The supercar can take many forms including limited production specials from an "elite" automaker, standard looking cars made by mainstream companies that hide massive power and performance, as well as models that appeal to "hardcore enthusiasts" from "manufacturers on the fringe of the car industry.
I guess the Aventador is a supercar after all.

But in retrospect - what difference does it make to anything what adjective is used? I'm ashamed to say I got involved in this debate in the first place.

Congratulations BDP - possibly the least insightful comment I have ever heard.
And by the way - your staggering breadth of knowledge doesnt stretch to politics - sadly, British citizens aren't given the opportunity to vote for the American president

Okay, so, at first I wanted to bash BDP in the virtual face; but now after reading his (her?) response I understand where you're coming from.
It makes sense. The terms HAVE and ARE tossed around like your best friends sister around the neighborhood.
I agree on not using the term 'super car'. Unfortunately the guys who make enough to buy 'just' Lamborghini's or Ferrari's are the ones that pay the bills and NOT the super-rich. They simply do not purchase as many cars as the others- by sheer numbers there are more of average F or Lambo owners versus the super rich. So pander they must to those guys to fuel their egos.
Sadly, the cars are amazing on their own and need not some BS marketing campaign.
And MASSIVE rep to BDP for using "miniature ****ing giraffes" in a sentence.
hahahha.... that made me LOL aloud.
