Spied: 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL63
Taking the kids to Soccer has never been this fun

Our trusty Teamspeed spies bring us today the next-generation Mercedes-Benz GL AMG. Spied wearing less camouflage this time, we get a better look at those sporty bumpers as well as the quad-piped exhaust pipes at the rear.

The exact power-plant is still unkonw but our best guess is it will receive a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 with around 540 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL is expected to go on sale next year with the AMG version debuting sometime afterwards.

i was wondering when merc would churn out an amg version of this, absolutely retarded.

 

I dont see what is wrong in having the 63 in all AMGs. I thought AMG is replacing the 63 with the forced 55 engine. 63 is a gem.

 

I dont get what the big deal is, you have the g55 which is a classic, and the ml63 is extremely sporty and fun, but the interior is a joke, the back is too seats are too small, and the rear trunk space is a joke.

Why not put a big twin turbo v8 in ur largest SUV? makes sense to me, the GL is much better than the ML in all aspects

 

you're right, its completely logical to make an amg version of a 7 seater suv for soccer moms with the aerodynamics of a brick and the handling of a school bus.

 

This is going to be awesome. But I think I'll wait for the new G55.

 

We have a GL550 and the handling is really not bad at all, actually quite remarkable for such a big vehicle.
