If government collapses and anarchy strikes or zombies invade, I would only need two things: A kalashnikov and a G wagen. I hope this answers your question.

P.S I had extensive time in the G550 and I loved it, the new v8 engine provides plenty of power to move the car. I think that engine is perfect for everyday driving.

can't compare fairly - the new Cayenne Turbo displays clearly the 40(+/-) years of design and technology advancements that separate the two, might just as well compare a 2010 Jeep Wrangler to the new Cayennne Turbo

That's pretty funny. You like to start flame fests, don't you?

The more people post things like this, the more I love my G. You just have to "get it"

There will be always on G-class, the Cayenne is going to get softer and more cross over SUV than a proper 4x4.

The 1 person that buys a cayenne to be a "real" 4×4 is crazy, though I do give it props due to the fact it is quite capable off road.

My 2¢ if You want to be noticed and really stand apart from the crowd, get the G. If you want a raised sports car, get the cayenne.

And I think Hugo was trying to say that they are just complete opposites. I agree, you can't really compare them.

Hey new guy, do you even know who you're talking to????

FWIW, I just watched a video of the new Cayenne Turbo come within 1.2s of a 2011 C4S on a short track. Very impressive. I would boil my decision down to road = Cayenne, off-road = G-wagen. My buddy had a G55 and it was a bit much for day-to-day urban driving. I used to drive an armored one overseas, so I do appreciate the S-class level of amenities inside.

Sigh, hugo stated his opinion with a bit of sarcasm and truth in it. I tend to agree.

You asked for an opinion on an open forum and you got it.

You can't really compare the two, they are from 2 different eras. You can only choose what suits you better personally and I don't know what your taste or needs are.
Best way is to go drive the new Cayenne and see if you prefer it over the G-wagon.

Did your mother drop you on the head when you were a baby? Piss off.

The new Cayenne is a nice car and I'm sure you'll have a blast with it. But it's also the kind of car you'll turn in for the newer/hotter/better model in a heartbeat when it comes out eventually.

The G on the other hand is the kind of car you'd still want to have in the family 50 years from now.

This is my exact issue - I can see keeping this car "in the family" until it dies. Its THAT good.

I can totally see myself jumping for the next "new" upgrade on the Cayenne -

The G is as classic as classic can be. And....the build quality, its pretty unbelievable. This particular truck is really an engineering work of art!

thanks for all the discussion gents!

Best,

asg
