You're just an iJunkie Jox.
Nothing prevents Microsoft from grabbing market share. They have a great mobile UI that is very easy to write apps for, a high quality hardware partner (Nok), very deep pockets, and are still dominant in the PC area and the corporate world. Carriers and QCOM pusing in the same direction as well. We shall see.

While their desktop market share is still significant (although that has more to do with company policies rather than what people actually prefer to use) and Nokia is bleeding heavily .... They had no choice but to jump at whatever was thrown at them in terms of new business. And most importantly - there are emotional aspects involved in choosing a phone ... something that doesn't exist the same way in the computer world (unless you have an Apple) - and Microsoft can never, ever compete there. I fail to even see their intended target audience. The corporate world that still uses Exchange servers?

I deal with app developers on a daily basis
This is the order of importance to them
iOS
Android
Java/Symbian
windows
I'm headed up to AppNation tomorrow in NYC, I'm willing to bet I hear little from people asking us to start windows support

Microsoft's enterprise market share is also slipping quickly. As far as client systems, many large and small companies are switching to Apple. Many of those same companies are moving away from Exchange and other supporting software as quickly as they can too. Microsoft is losing marketshare in every segment, if they can't even hang on in markets where they had once established dominance I highly doubt their ability to succeed in a market where they are starting as the underdog.
This isn't to say that Apple is perfect, but they know how to provide something that people actually want instead of forcing people to use something that sucks (which is what microsoft has done for years with a reliance on their size).

Wow just read the entire thread and learned a lot. I had the opposite issue with the upgrade. Prior to upgrade I couldn't browse google images via Safari. I couldn't click on a pic or go to the next page, after the upgrade it works fine. I also didn't know that I should wait a few days for upgrading, I always click ok whenever a new upgrade is available.
