its the first Ipad and my first apple product. I dont really have any apps besides taptalk and whatever came with it.

i have 3 kids I clean the outside with butt wipes

I understand that you may not have downloaded any additional apps, but each app (that's already installed...such as Mail, Weather, etc.) that you open requires a certain amount of RAM to operate even when it's only running in the background. You could have 5 or 10 apps running all at once without even realizing it, and that may be causing the lag you're experiencing. On the other hand, it could also be that you're using the 1st-gen iPad that has less RAM than the newer models.

Manually closing apps in the multi-tasking bar also frees up the iPad's memory and is much quicker than restarting the iPad.

If its the first gen iPad. Could be the newer OS. I hear the slow the gen 1 quite a bit

Definitely could be this. I have a 1st gen still an after the updates it has definitely gotten slower. Really sucks but what an ya do. Still works well for what I use it for.

Go to Settings => About => Reset All Settings. I just back mine up before I do it, and restore it afterwards, and you'll feel like you're setting up a new iPad! JUST MAKE SURE TO BACK IT UP!
