Macbook screen turning dark at some angles

My wife's macbook is starting to have a screen issue. The power to the screen cuts off depending on the angle of the screen, and you have to push it to a certain point back or forward to see it light up.
Should I dump it or is there an easy fix?

SoCal is an unknown quantity at this point
Don't dump it. Take it to the Apple store and they should be able to fix it or will replace it.

How much would it cost though? No warranty.

I had the same screen issue with my MacPro notebook. I took it in to the Apple's store and they fix it for free.

It probably needs a new LCD or inverter. Not to be a downer, but I doubt they're going to do that for free out of warranty at the apple store. It'll cost around $250 to have it fixed by any reputable local shop or an online vendor like PowerBook Medic.

Well, the screens themselves are like $75 or so on ebay if you're feeling adventurous and want to try to repair it yourself. It's kind of a PITA, but decent fun if you like to tinker.
