took about 5 hours

bummer all my apps are erased and no jailbreak

thank god contacts and photos are still there

 

You had to "transfer purchases" on top of doing a backup to save your apps. Stupid of Apple to design it this way. IMHO, they should have designed it so that a backup would do just that, back up EVERYTHING!

You can re-download those apps, just have to remember which ones you had before. A pain, but the only way... and there's already a jailbreak for iOS 5 out believe it or not.

 

Your apps belong to your account so you can always download them again. It will be a note beside them in the app store telling you you have already payed for them.

So when you sync your iPhone again you can just choose in iTunes which apps you want to add. The majority of them, if not all, should already be on your computer ready to be synced over.

 

The problem is that it doesn't show you which ones you have already downloaded unless you know exactly where they are. There are thousands of them. In the iPad app store, it shows you what purchases you've made so that's at least convenient. Not so for iPhone users.

And, it only pops up in iTunes IF you "transfer purchases" meaning download those apps to your computer. It doesn't get transferred like I said when you make a backup.

 

The update process restores the phone with the latest OS. Did you honestly think Apple was going to re-jailbreak the thing for you?

 

Have you checked? In the Swedish app store I can see my previous purchases.

But every time you sync it asks before quitting if you wanna transfer purchases. Haven't you seen that pop-up window?

 

Anyone know how the hell I can get all my ibooks back on my ipad after the upgrade? They have disappeared.
