Apple had no alternative but to roll their own browser.

Moreover, Safari is considerably faster on a Mac. It was only rolled out in a windows flavor as iTunes needs the webkit underpinnings to work with the music store.
All I'm saying is that according to PC World magazine, Apple came out with a public statement that took stabs at Firefox 3 and Google Chrome saying their browser would run faster regardless of the operating system. PC World ran these tests and the result was Google Chrome coming on top.

Also, last time I checked Firefox did not...
1. Crash on start-up.
2. Not let the operating system boot because of the new Safari 4 installation.
3. Strange slow-downs and random crashes.

I've been using Firefox for years, so have my friends in the Visual Arts Department at school.
Safari 4 is much more of a "piece of crap" than Firefox is.

Fix your OS install and/or hardware before you blame a piece of software that has absolutely no ability whatsoever to affect any of the above.
