Even though I am a die hard M/T fan, I just sold my 991 manual and got a 991 PDK.
For me 997=manual and 991=PDK
IMO the 991 is too GT for a M/T, its like it was designed with the PDK in mind, starting with the ergonomics.
Said that, I am truly amazed with the 991 PDK, paddle shifting in sport plus is fantastic.

Drove the 7MT for an entire day and honestly its the best in the business. If you are even remotely considering it I say go for a drive. It really is amazing how Porsche improved what I thought was already pretty amazing.

here's my take, as tough call as it gets.
if this is ur only car, and u drive it daily, maybe PDK is a smarter choice. however, for me if i would to keep one manual car, it has to be a 911. Porsche makes the best manual experience imo. luckily i have other automatic & paddle shifting cars so driving a manual on a semi-weekly base is an enjoyment for me.
the PDK on the 991 is nearly perfect. u'll be faster in the PDK than manual for sure. only thing i dislike the PDK is the actual paddle feeling. pulling the paddle has no resistance, which i think there's room for improvement. there's not much to complain on the manual except it's slower than the PDK. but the enjoyment u get from shifting urself is just priceless - $4k cheaper actually.

If I order a new car I'd go with the manual. I'd go with PDK only if I were tracking the car a decent amount as it is both faster and safer. However, in my opinion the manual is more fun and doesn't get outdated as opposed to dual clutch transmissions when they get improvements with future versions.

I recently drove a 991 PDK and manual back to back and would definitely pick the manual if driver involvement is what is important to you. But I also found the PDK in 991 much improved over the one in 997.2.
Also while most people's opinion is that PDK/DCT is better for daily driving and manual for weekend fun car. What I discovered for myself is quite opposite - that DCT makes your usual mundane daily driving even more boring. But on a challenging back road, where the other functions of driving like steering, braking and accelerating can keep you occupied, you don't miss the lack of manual shifting as much you would in a less challenging road. In fact, you might even enjoy the other functions even more now being able to concentrate on them more. But at the same time what I kind of disliked most about the DCT/PDK is that it seemed to make me a worse driver - while in a manual you have to prepare for a corner and shift down and be in the right gear, but in a PDK/DCT car, you are penalized less even if you don't and instead just make it up as you go. Again this can be an advantage on a unfamiliar back road while not so on your daily commute where you know every on and off ramp like the back of your palm.
So it is all still grey for me. I think if I had another manual daily driver, I wouldn't mind a PDK as much, but if it was my only car, I would definitely prefer a manual.

I don't know if it was the 991 I drove, but believe it or not, IMHO and only My Opinion I preferred the PDK. I guess I am just getting old, in the 997.2 I much preferred the Manual over the PDK.
