991 Sound Symposer - Explained

^^ I appreciate the humor, but I don't think all-electric motors are the future. They need to develop something on the lines of fuel-cell / electric-hybrid (not the Prius, more like the 918) / alternative-fuels - bio-ethanol - like Koenigseggs.
@ All
I've never seen a 991. I'd love to get my hands on one. But I strongly believe that the 991 is a step ahead - and most importantly in the right direction - of the 997.
The 997 does have plenty of charm, as does the 993 - even more so - the 964 and so on..
The 991 a few years down the line will have it's own charm too, not that it doesn't already - if I'm honest. I particularly like the 991 Cabrio in black (or white) with the red-top option.
You guys are nitpicking
I mean, 20-30kgs here and there isn't much really. Sure, it counts on the track but does it really rob you of the joy and excitement of owning and driving the car THAT much?
Awesome OP by the way. Learnt something new about the 991 and I'm glad it isn't like the new BMW M5.

^^ I've got to agree with you.
Based purely on a financial standpoint, it's hard to justify the 991 Carrera's exorbitant price-tag.
Here in India, it retails for a little over 1.2 crores i.e. 12 million rupees. The new M5 also retails for similar money. But the problem with the 991 is the long list of options. I was pretty conservative with the box-ticking-exercise in the configurator and STILL managed to rack up a 1.6 crore price-tag. This was without PDK, PCCB, full-leather, Aero-Kit etc. Once it's taxed, registered and insured, it will nudge the 2-crore (20 million rupee) mark.
That's a lot of money for a car that makes around 400 horses.
For the same (or a lesser) amount of money, you get a 4 door 4-seater sedan with 500+ horses. On paper, the M5 has the 991 licked.
I had the opportunity to check out the 991 in the new Porsche Center in Bangalore last week.
You know what they say about meeting your heroes?
Anyway, a close friend of mine had the opportunity to drive and review the new M5 and he was left impressed. People might argue that it doesn't have the same character of the old E60 M5, and it probably doesn't.
But back in the mid '80s when BMW introduced the M5 to the World, it was meant to be an everyday supercar. A usable sedan that you could take to track-days and then drive back home. I'm not sure if the E60 was very usable. The high-strung V10 made it a daunting drive at city / parking speeds.
So idiotic tech like the pre-recorded audio-clip of the engine-note aside, BMW has nailed it with the new F10. It's a properly usable super-sedan and that's what the M5 should be all about!
