Interestingly by the time I completed the above post, it got me thinking..A case can be made to by a base model as DJ asked with few if any options and use it for 2-3 years and then get either the 991 of that year or a pre owned 991S.

That really seems like the smartest move in many ways...Will I do it? probably not but I did do that with the last two Boxsters I bought and never missed the options I never had!

Sounds corny to say but if the car brings you happiness you should simply do it. The way you describe it it seems like it would be an excellent DD. The S you can buy CPO'd a few years down the road like you said.

You're not wrong at all. And it's funny as this was my approach when I bought my first Boxster..lightly optioned and then when the S came out, I did it again.

I would bet that in 2-3 years the base 991 will be where the S is now and the S will have that much more.

It's an interesting way to think about it as I really didn't consider buying a bare bones 991, I just configured one with zero options except metallic paint..

There is something weirdly gratifying about the idea of buying a bare bones car like this..

Don't. do.it.

get 997s. and. then. 991S.

LMFAO

The only problem with that is that he will do it at 3am with 5 minutes notice (because he made the decision 7 minutes ago and can't wait until morning, lest he change his mind.)

Otherwise, I would go!

Entering nj from the Loncoln Tunnel, i was driving in the center lane when literally out of nowhere a Chevy Eqinox(?) served into my left drivers side fender!!

She kept going but i called 911 and pulled over to wait for the State Troopers.

Unfortunately i have to report this to Port Authority police who will issue her a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident.
Here's a follow up on the above:

Stopped at the Port Authority Police HQ in NJ last night to report the accident.

After walking around the building trying to find the entrance I saw a policeman leaving the building and I told him what happened.

He was extremely nasty and started giving me an instant hard time, lecturing me and really busting my balls. He finally agreed to look at the car with another cop and his whole attitude was belligerent and nasty and as I fumbled for the paperwork he was barking at me.

I said, "Look, I gotta tell you, you are busting my balls. I didn't do anything wrong and you are treating me like you pulled me over for something."

He gave me a dead fish expression (hand on gun. yes. really!) and continued to be a nasty ball breaker.

Finally his partner stepped in and took over. I could see he didn't like how I was being treated and he was very nice, professional and cool (good cop, bad cop? lol)

He invited me to go inside as they should have in the first place, He took my statement, looked up the registration and issues a summons to the driver which is sent certified mail.

The problem (for the owner) is that she is 70 years old and from the quick glance I got, the driver did not look 70 years old..Either she loos great or it's her daughter that was driving. Regardless she will have to appear in court and either lose her license or give up the driver.

I almost let this one go, as going to the police, especially where they are located was a pain but I'm glad I did it as hitting my car and not stopping is just so fvcked up.

The fender us slightly dented and the bumper needs paint..

I'll follow up and call the court to see what happens..I was told my insurance company can contact the drivers and as it's not my fault they would pay...that's assuming she has insurance of course.

I guess it could have been worse, especially as a mid engine car like the Boxster S that does not have PASM could have been ugly as she hit me almost at the wheel in a perfect police ramming move...I did feel the back kick out and it was right in a turn when she tapped me.

But the best part is that it kept me away from Paul Miller and testing the 991 again! How much did I save?
