OK, enough with the stall tactics. On with the review!!
And I work like two miles from Paul Miller. Let me know when you get your 991 (or is it 997) delivered!

Nick handed me the keys and I settled into the cockpit of the 991. Nick explained there was no traditional emergency brake and to release it, you had to push a button. Makes sense I guess but the stage was already set that things had changed.
I eased out of first and onto Route 46 Westbound towards Route 80. The 991 felt a little bit bigger than my GT3 but the clutch was very smooth and it was immediately very easy to drive...clutch feel is crucial to me and while light, it was decisive enough for me and off we went.
IT was pretty much exactly what I had expected but better it that makes any sense. I had the feeling of pretty much unlimited and very smooth power curves. The bumps in the road felt distant and the ride was buttery smooth yet confident. I forced un needed downshifts just to get a feel for the clutch and hear the engine sounds...Both were just very gratifying..We exited 46 and onto Route 80 West and the 991 felt well...pretty damned perfect.. more engaging that I thought and within minutes I had already felt like it was one of my cars..Familiar, fast, safe and a feeling that I love that translates roughly to "King of the road', as though I had a power few other cars could match..I didn't get much time behind the wheel to give it a proper test but I can't think of much to criticize..and for me, that's saying quite a lot!
And this was a base model 991, stickered at around $95K..
We turned around and pulled back into the parking lot and in we got into the 997s.
Immediately and before even pulling out of the parking lot, I had the feeling that the 997 cabin was almost like being in my 996 or my 964. In other words it felt even more familiar than the 991. The difference was actually profound. All of a sudden the familiar proportions of width and distance to the windshield and overall feel of the car was very apparant and well in a way almost disappointing..I know that was not 'fair' but yet, the 997 was just another 911...Not that that's a bad thing mind you but it was a weird feeling.
WIth that weirdness also came a sense of more familiarity...I was for all intents and purposes back in one of my other cars but it was better, smoother, much better ride obviously than my 996 GT3 and it just did everything better than my 964. In other words the 'evolution' was making complete sense.
As i pulled out onto Route 46, right away I felt a 'thump' thump' feel and sound, which Nick explained was tire spotting or flattening from having sat too long..But as we drove on it lessened and again, I felt comfortable very quickly.
The ride was smooth, the shifting and the feel was silky and slick and I had no complaints about anything..Again, it felt like just a better 996 which was the idea in the first place. but coming back to it from the 991 was like returning to reality and that reality was great but I wanted to go back to the future with the 991.
I would and could and might be very happy owning and using a 997 as a daily driver. Clearly with the improved ride it would be a wonderful car. But after I got out of it, i could not help staring at the 991..I was in love and it already hurt..I didn't come to Paul Miller to want or like the 991 so much. I had presumed I would like it but I had decided it would be too distant and slick and removed from the driving experience to be gratifying.
I was wrong.
The evolution of the 911 to the 991 is in my opinion not that at all, it is a pure revolution, it's a true game changer.
What will I do? Well it's a win win no matter what. I honestly don't know at this moment but I do know that while I might get a 997s to dutifully follow Porsches plan for me, that in my heart even after buying it, I will be longing for and just waiting for the right time to get a 991...In fact, Porsche has me hook, line and sinker...
I have my eye on a perfect 997s if I am lucky enough to nab it.
Stay tuned as that plan can change any day..It's nice to know the 991 is out and I will have one eventually if not sooner..
