My dad drives a BMW 5 series with a 7speed and there is no reason whatsoever to even consider it "unpractical and too busy", so I don't think the new 7speed of a Porsche Carrera would be unpractical and too busy.

Anyway, I hope you'll (The Yank) find your perfect Porsche!

thank you. i'm not just considering porsche but sports cars all within the price range. however it seems everyone here wants me to mainly stick with porsche. not that i mind though

about talking to Mike S, i'm thinking about switching transmissions, that launch control sounds amazing.

You're thread title is 997Turbo vs 991 S

You could go for a Ford GT, just saying...

haha, i made another thread in the aston martin section, but was quickly shot down by all the Porsche enthusiast. i would LOVE to have a Ford GT, just to own it and have it sit in my driveway. but i don't have the money or practicality to do that.

Not shot down, just trying to clarify what you're going for. Astons and Porsches are completely different cars. I *almost* bought an Aston V8 Vantage on two separate occasions, but both times, the engineering, heritage, and performance swayed me to Porsche. Just depends on your priority. If you want people to look at you, the Aston wins hands-down. Also, I think the Aston will be a valuable, beautiful, collector car in 25 yrs time, while the Porsche will be another Porsche.

you read my mind on some of things you said. i agree with you on the porsche philosophy completely. and the part where a porsche will be another porsche. is a bit too true. if i'm going to make this purchase my DD, it would be a porsche hands down, 997tt or 991s. not sure how a vantage would do on a daily basis, especially with the heavy clutch i kept hearing.

oh and congrats on your 11,111 post

I don't disagree with your point here, but I just want to say, a manual 7 speed would be very different from an automatic/double-clutch 7 speed.

I have a friend with an 07 V8 Vantage...and it's definitely a car I wouldn't want to DD. No power steering, heavy clutch...it would only be fun for so long. At least this applies to where I live, anyways.

Back on topic, I'm in the same predicament as you. I'm looking to make the switch from my 09 E92 M3 to either the 991S or a used 997.2turbo s(or turbo)...There hasn't been a day where one car completely won over the other. What might push me(or us?) over is when the demo's arrive at the dealer. It's 2 different animals, and I know I'm not in a position to afford the new 991 turbo when it comes out...but I can't say this is a bad situation to be in.

yeah i don't know if me going to the dealership tomorrow would be a good idea, i don't like to buy things on impulse but i always end up doing. if i end up getting a 997 turbo before 991 comes out and finding the 991 that much better i would not be able to forgive myself,

oh and welcome to this site

Thanks!

I was completely poisoned when we first ordered a new cayenne s, then again when I attended the Porsche World Road Show. I'm in way too deep to go back now. It's just a matter of time.
