Bumperette Qs

A couple of questions about the Bumperettes:

1) How do you remove them???
2) What's underneath? Is it just slots that hold them in, or is there a big gap?
3) Would it be possible to replace them with some sort of cover such as the BumperPlugs?

I know they're there for US regs, but I think we all know they can't provide any real safety above the ROW bumpers, and something tells me most Inspection locations would never noticed or know the difference.

I believe you have to replace the US bumper with a Euro spec one (seen here), I haven't heard of anybody simply removing the bumperettes

You either have to have a good shop fill in the holes and refinish the bumper or buy a euro spec bumper, I did this on a old 996 cab I had, hated the bumperettes that much

Considering the bumperettes are US regulation, are there any potential "consequences" for removing the replacing with euro spec? I can't imagine anyone would notice or care, but I am surprised this isn't more common.

This is what it looks like behind the bumper

Those extra black parts stick out and match the bumperette.

I personally like the bumperette in the back. They will take a good 10mph hit from behind without damaging the rest of the bumper. They can be replaced cheaply by removing the bumper. The whole bumper is about $3K to replace and repaint.

I have a spare 996 bumperette painted in seal gray. It fits 2002-2004 C2, GT3.
