Would this be an unwise idea?

Would this be an unwise idea?
I've been thinking about downsizing from an SUV to something smaller and sportier lately, and I've been looking at the 911 and Cayman since the Panamera is out of my budget.
Focusing only on the 911: I love the 997 and my local dealer is offering some great discounts on their current stock since the 991 is just around the corner.
While I have a feeling that the 991 will be a notable technological improvement over the 997, have a significantly better interior and more badass exterior, I don't like the idea of waiting until January 2012 for the car to arrive here, place my order, wait another six months for the car to arrive and then possibly deal with any kinks that all-new/first-year cars could face. Besides, the 911 is a timeless design and the 997 wouldn't look terribly outdated next to the 991, would it now? I'm also guessing that resale values on the 997 wouldn't necessarily plunge a few years into the 991's lifecycle... or would they?
What do you guys think? Get a 997 now and enjoy it before selling it off in a few years, or just wait for the 991?

Buying a 911 is like buying a cell phone - the version just around the corner is the one you want. But that's always true, and when the 991 comes out, you'll feel like you want to wait for the 991 Turbo, or the GT3, or the Targa 4S PDK Aerokit Smurf Edition. And by then, why not hold out for the 992...
If I were in the market for a 911 today, and wanted to stay under 100k, I'd go get a used 997 GT3 or Turbo. Actually, I'd get a used GT3/Turbo over a brand new 'unadorned' 911 every day of the week.

Never a bad idea to move to a 911!!!
I just moved from a P2S to a 911 GTS, and decided to do a 24-mth lease on my GTS to 'protect' against any large impact that the 991 launch might have on 997 values. When my lease is up, I'll be able to better judge purchase price of my GTS vs market value and then compare that to a 991 or some other preowned 997.

also, with your budget concerns in mind why not buy something thats fully depreciated. that would be logical, 997 GT3 is one of the best bargains out there right now.

Get one now. Like the others have said, you can get a great deal on a used one.
