I have to disagree. Porsches have evolved to be smoother and not as scary at the limit and they are not built by hand but they still have the same traits that Porsche started with. Porsches are reliable, small displacement, well built sports cars compared to the competition just as they were when the first 911 came out in 1965. If you read any review from the 70s or 80s they complain about how the cars have bad ergonomics and they are scary at the limit. Now that Porsche has corrected these things we complain that they are boring. The normal models are great all around sports cars and the "special" models are special, just as they have been forever. The only way that I can see Porsche make their cars more special is the take away all the driver aids, make them only stick shifts, and take out all other creature comforts...Then most people would complain that the cars are unsafe and the cars don't have enough options to compete with the competition.

^^^stop speaking logic.
I think it's a case of 'spoiled brat syndrome'. People forgot that not too long ago cars weren't that exciting or controlable. Or affordable.
Add technology and 'boom' - we're all just sooooooo awesome at driving cars'.
Not.

GLN's poll wasn't too far off the mark.

Whether you agree with him or not, the question is being asked seriously. Personally, I agree with most of his opinions in the editiorial. Fundamentally, 911s are no longer the special cars they once were. He suggests that the only 911s that live up to their roots are the GT models.
What are your thoughts?

No, I said the GT models were more special than the standard models. The standard models compared to other sports cars such as the M3 IMO are 1000x more special. So if the standard 911s are 1000x more special than the competiton, then the GT models are absolutley over flowing with special. Well at least for me.
Everytime I see a 911 on the road (or any Porsche for that matter, my eyes are magnetized. The same doesn't go for other sports cars. Is the M3 special? Yes. But not as much as a 911. The sound of a GT3 can literally make someone shake (me
) with excitment. Also, I even get an extremely special feeling from the 996. The 997, even more so.Though if I could have a Porsche it would be a GT model, I've always had an overwhelming desire for an almost no options Black C2S. Just because it represents nearly 50 years of refienment and nothing else.
I know I used to think the 911 could die, but now I say, it will NEVER die.
And what was GLN's poll?
