Sachs Stage II Clutch and LWFW Impressions
#11
Having this bad boy fitted this week:
Cargraphic reinforced performance clutch kit incl. single mass fly wheel. Designed for up to 810Nm.
Really looking forward to how the Single Mass FW affects acceleration!!
Question: do new clutches need to be run in gently for the first couple hundred miles?

So, just had a frustrating drive back home through a few hours of wall to wall traffic. I hate being in traffic in a supercar at the best of times, but now I have extra reason to hate it - my new light weight flywheel! Boy does it make a lot of noise.
Basically any gear under 2k revs will produce a loud scraping/rattling noise until you get over these revs. Also when static in traffic with the clutch out, the chattering noise is frankly a bit embarrassing.
This basically means learning a new way of driving. Always keep the clutch pressed down when stationary, and never change up gears until you are high up in the rev band and the drop doesn't take you below 2k revs in the next gear.
The latter is no problem when the car has room to stretch its legs a little, but taking 2nd gear turns at junctions in town is hard to keep it above 2k revs without being a hooligan.
On the plus side, I can definitely feel the car wanting to go faster now. I only got the chance a couple of times to experience this in my 3 hour drive home, but when I did it felt really good. No stalling issues and the clutch pedal and bite point seem the same to me.
So to sum up - the new clutch makes the car a bit faster but sound a lot worse.
