Basic 996 turbo tuning? Comes with a problem :/
Hello! I recently bought a stock 996 Turbo.
I wanted more power, so I got it tuned (mantley racing software) to approximately 520-530hp and 780+ nm. I dont have the exact numbers, but this is what I was told.
Tuning was only the software. Nothing else.
So here goes:
The first night after trim, the car did run smooth and funny. By funny i mean it really changed its personality compared to the stock car earlier that day.
The boost was around 1,1 bar. and outside temp. was 57-65 farenheit. The car went faster than any car I ever driven, and I loved it..
But... The next day with sun and outside temp. approx. 68-77 farenheit. The car wouldnt go smooth at all.
After gone warm i pushed down the right foot.
This happened:
Engine stallin and not going more than 3500-4000 rpm.
I took off the battery and start/stop engine 5+ times. (I heard that would reset the "engine - S.O.S program" that it apparenty had gone itself into.
So later that night when the climate was colder (around 60 farenheit) i tryed again.
This time the engine would go smooth some times, but not everytime and not at all like it did the day before.
When it goes smooth, the boost bar is only 0,9 at its best.. So the engine-computer have decided to stop at 0,9 and not going all the way to 1,1 bar that it was supposed to.
..But its still goes to "engine - S.O.S program" time to time. (stopping at 3500-4000rpm. and goes to maximum 0,5 bar. That happens alot more than the engine going smooth with its 0.9 bar.
I didnt think about it the first day the car went like crazy, but now when I got the problems it seems like it wont get full boost. 2. gear i only got 0,7 bar. (I thought maybe it should manage to get higher boost even in 2. gear?
..and of course, that is when its running smooth. When stalling it wont get over 0,5 bar.
in 3. gear it wont get to 0,9 before passed 4500-5000 rpm. Thats a bit late?
What seems to be the problem?
I think my stock exhaust combined with to high temperatures, but Im really not a mechanic.
So what I need to hear is:
- Will my beautiful 966 with its healthy engine (hopefully)
go smooth like hell and give me the goosebumps with its 1,2 bar after changing the original exhaust to something that let the air out?
OR might it be other precausions I need to make before having fun in a perfectly healthy engine that works the same evertime i floor the pedal?
As you can see, I really want to exclude any further problems. So that I can be prepared if they do come and smack me in the face!
