Cheapest way to get an extra key?

I need an extra key for my new 997TT. Dealer is saying it's around $400-500. Any way to get it cheaper? I don't need remote unlocking or anything, just need to start it (it's for my building valet).

Thanks,
Steve

Any good locksmith can reproduce the key blade but you'll need the Porsche head that contains the transponder chip so the ignition recognizes the key for starting. You can buy the heads from Suncoast - you'll still have to get the dealer to program the transponder.

Thanks. Do I have to buy the blank from Suncoast too or will a locksmith have compatible blanks?

seriously? we charge, I think like 200 max. the blank isn't the issue, it's the remote section that needs to come from Germany.

You can get a valet key without the remote. It looks like a conventional key. But I would worry about valets scratching up your door without remote locking and unlocking

I always thought that was the biggest letdown about any car... Why. The. Fawk!!! is a key that much? Blows my mind... /rant.

Sorry Steve, I have nothing of value to add here.

Please start a thread about your new ride though, if you would.

You will need 3 things for a new key, even for valet driving on the 997.

1. New blade - $30ish.
Key Blank:Porsche Parts & Porsche Accessories - Wholesale Porsche Parts & Tequipment - Cayman Panamera Cayenn

2. New remote with transponder. You can't activate the car without the transponder...so a "valet" key which is only the blade can open the door lock, the glove compartment, but will not activate KESSY to start the ignition. Cost is about $150.
Remote Key Head - 997:Porsche Parts & Porsche Accessories - Wholesale Porsche Parts & Tequipment - Cayman Panamera Cayenn

3. You will need PIWIS to program the KESSY control unit. If you have PIWIS, ask your dealership for the IPAS codes.

Programming keys on the 997 is different than the 996 which had a bar code with a passcode. You will need the IPAS codes to program KESSY with PIWIS.
