^Amen.

I just paraphrased this from Gunter Klass' Wikipedia page, but there are lots of these kinds of instances:

Vic Elford, competing in the Rally Corsica of 1966, drove a 911 given to him by Huschke von Hanstein, Porsche's man in charge of racing. Elford later recalled that the service van provided by Porsche contained only wheels and tires, and no spare parts at all, and that he complained about the lack. Hanstein, however, assured him that, “Porsches, even rally-prepared Porsches, simply don't break.”

Aston, hilarious close. I almost feel bad continuing on. But, I will. The great engine vs great car comment is excellent. I have a 2003 911 and love it. The PSE has a wonderful sound and the look, the handling, the feeling you get from it, makes these cars so special. It's why I love mine and my dad still talks about the '73 912 that was his first car. Faster cars out there? Yep. But so be it.

You've not the experience in any vehicle to make a blanket comment like your first post.

I am dead serious. When you are old enough. You will get it. Until you are old enough your experience is about what is written.

I don't care of you've driven a 911. I care if you've driven one to its limits for hours. I mean shit yourself limits. The cars are amazing.

I've raced em
Wrecked em
Loved em
And
Cried over them because some are so pretty I can't get past it.

911's are THE car.
CGT the big brother pretty darn close.

If you were to tell me today you must choose Porsche or something else only I would choose the 911. I'd sell my Ferrari's first. Plus they are well priced.

Don't get me started on Heritage and Racing.

Are the newer ones a little whores out? Yes but all companies are. They need to make money. I don't blame them.

So you can take it personally or think about the statement when you say I just don't get it. It's just a car.....And there are tons of better cars.

There aren't.

Tell me your dad still has his 73 912 please.
Amazing that would be.

Fair enough. I would be lying if I said I wouldn't want to drive the new 991 911.

After reading the thread, the only thing I have too add is a great quote from John Keats. "nothing ever becomes real till it is experienced"

H20, sadly he does not. He is 60 now and got it when he was 16. It was a green color...and not white GT3RS with green accents green...like pine tree green. He has had a 944 in the interim and when I got my 911, he got the Porsche bug back and I'm helping him search again :-)

Actually it wasn't off topic. Poop
I'd agree kind of. Please see BigE's post.

Just live and write don't read and write.

If people knew more about good cars I am a firm believer LameBo would be out of business.

Bummer that would be amazing. Still mega props for your dad for rocking a 911 at 16.

H20, the craziest part is that he paid for it while working as a bag boy at Kroger...and paying for college all on his own. How times have changed...but our passions have not. I guess maybe the Porsche bug is more of a hereditary gene.

Ehh, my dad tried to use the "I paid for my college so you should pay for yours" thing on me. I think he doesn't realize how much more expensive college has gotten and how little part-time jobs pay nowadays.

He went to U of I Urbana-Champaign and to Vanderbilt for grad school so it's not like he went to some crappy community college or something too. But this was back in like the seventies tho.

Hence the reason why I am starting my own biz... Someone's going to have to pay for all these learnings.

NOW I can say that I have gotten off-topic. (sorry)
