What Makes a Porsche Unforgettable?

For me, what makes the porsche special, its just how well its built. I've owned many cars, some modified to high HPs, but nothing feels so solid under WOT as a Porsche.. it just feels like harmony at play.. blows my mind everything I drive it..
Plus there is something special when you hit that sweet spot in the boost range and it just assaults you..

Both the 993 and the 930 Turbo took hits to start with...
Almost all cars do... therefore you can never tell what will be a "classic" and what will not
But I think the numbers that are being produced today have a great effect to this. If you have a 996 gt3rs it’s a “wow that’s rare”. But now you need a GT3RS 4.0 in PTS for it to be rare…

++++ to Bonehead. .2 is merely a Porsche CPA's dream, holding a place in line for The Next True Porsche. .2 engine, with 50% less parts than the legendary Mezger, plus first generation PDKs failing does NOT equal classic anything. Porsche will fix the PDK, and the 9A1 will be relegated to spear-carrying duty, or, better yet, junked altogether. Just my opinion....my crystal ball is still in the shop.

As was already said, the 993 was not a classic until recently. At first it took a hit just like most other cars. But when most reflect back on older models, the 993 stands out with many positives over the others. One thing that comes to mind is that when it came out, I dont think there were many other sports cars with comparable performance, I could be wrong on this.
The 996 and 997 have many competitors for much cheaper. My 03' M3 performed better then most 996 models.
My BMW 650i performed just as good in handling and acceleration then a 997.1 4S, but cost 30k less. The 650 also had more room and much more amenities. Also the M3 were giving the 911's a run at much lower costs.
BMW's engineering is not that much inferior to that of Porsche either.
Once I got a 997.2S, I have not looked back at BMW.

The 993 era is definitely unforgettable because it's the last air cooled Porsche and probably the beginning of Porsche exclusive. Look at the prices for an (original) 993 Turbo S , if you can even find one.
The 996 received so much hate it didn't have the classic Porsche headlights. However it probably is one of the most reliable Porsches and the 996 gt3 rs mk1 a future classic.
The 997 is not really one of my favorites. I think there hasn't been any other model in automobile history with so many special editions. 997 speedster and 997 sport classic will increase in value over the years.
And we still have to remember that in some regions Porsche isn't defined by the 911. In Russia the Cayenne is "Porsche" and not the 911.

For everyone a porsche will always be what it is....a simple, obstacle over coming, engineered to perfection car. For me it is the fact that they have squeezed over 600 hp out of a flat 6 TT. Those are figures that only V12's typically call home. I love them because they are personal and every time I see one it's like seeing an old friend. They all look the same, but they are all different in their own ways. Love it or leave it the calling card of a porsche is it's everyday usability and it's reliability. I will keep mine forever and therefore it will be a classic to me and that's all that matters.
