In any other driving situation, if it's off, it stays off, regardless of how sideways you get.

It disables it completely, unless you touch the brakes. The idea is that if you're tail is waggling, and you hit the brakes, you got scared, and want the help. It can be a problem if you like to trail-brake with large slip angles, but you still get about 7 degrees of slip before intervention.
