Downshifting
#61
I'm pretty sure if you stick it in first at 90mph you'll be picking up the valvetrain off the floor

^^ that'll be the least of your problems. You'll probably spin her into a jersey barrier and reduce the overall length of the car! lol

You should downshift to 1st if the Ferrari has e.Gear. If it is manual or F1 you can just always coast. Also dont put the car in 1st at speeds greater than 100mph (e.Gear 90mph). Most e.Gear Ferraris will go to 1st automatically when your road speed drops below 50mph. If you are in a manual Ferrari and you want to start off in 2nd gear (for wet or icy conditions), put the Ferrari in 2nd gear.

your statement implies that it is ok under 90mph
LOL absolutetly not, even with Lambo's extra long first gears!
Hell even in 2nd, 90mph will cause damage (redline is 84mph)!
On a side note, i mishifted my RSX-S the day i got it back in 04 (2nd instead of 4th)...car went to 10K but survived!

Are you serious??? I hearby deduct 4,000 points from your man card!
WTF man!!
only girls coast to a stop. Men who know how to drive- downshift with throttle blips and carry the gear almost to a dead stop. Brakes are only there until you absolutely have to stop immediately!!
I can get a car to a complete stop almost by completely downshifting. Not to mention it saves a ton of wear and tear off the brakes.
In addition it's showing CONTROL over your car. Add some sort of emergency maneuver into the mix and I'm already in gear, all I have to do is accelerate.
You need to find the gear and put it into gear IMMEDIATELY and THEN press the accelerator. Yes we're talking milliseconds but those milliseconds could literally save your car and your life. I learned to be in gear at all times from my years of being on a motorcycle- where you're always in GEAR while coming to a stop- with one eye looking in your rear view mirror to see if some idiot isn't paying attention at the red light. You can quickly snap the throttle and get out of the way.
Its worked for me several times in cars and on my bikes, and saved my ass.
