Are you serious??? I hearby deduct 4,000 points from your man card!

WTF man!!

only girls coast to a stop. Men who know how to drive- downshift with throttle blips and carry the gear almost to a dead stop. Brakes are only there until you absolutely have to stop immediately!!

I can get a car to a complete stop almost by completely downshifting. Not to mention it saves a ton of wear and tear off the brakes.

In addition it's showing CONTROL over your car. Add some sort of emergency maneuver into the mix and I'm already in gear, all I have to do is accelerate.

You need to find the gear and put it into gear IMMEDIATELY and THEN press the accelerator. Yes we're talking milliseconds but those milliseconds could literally save your car and your life. I learned to be in gear at all times from my years of being on a motorcycle- where you're always in GEAR while coming to a stop- with one eye looking in your rear view mirror to see if some idiot isn't paying attention at the red light. You can quickly snap the throttle and get out of the way.

Its worked for me several times in cars and on my bikes, and saved my ass.

I support this and was thinking the same thing. Turn in your keys promptly and buy a Prius!

I agree to an extent. I believe in staying in gear while stopping but to me the wear and tear on my brakes is much cheaper then the cost of the clutch. I understand if you're doing it right there's not much wear but the reality is none of us are professional race car drivers.

If you're doing it right the brakes will last a long, long time- so will the clutch.

but the biggest reason to properly downshift is to exhibit control over your car.

I heard downshifting is bad for the transmission. Occasionally I'll rev match and down shift but I don't do it everytime. Brakes are less expensive then a transmission.

I keep an anchor in the trunk and just release that when coming to a stop. Much more effective and baller than Stoppie's method of rev matching your way to a stop.
