Frankly, when I'm on the road on my bike I'm not scared by people speeding, especially in nicer cars. Because odds are they are aware of what doing 100+ means. On the other hand the soccer mom who merges onto me without her flasher ... she's the one endangering others, and she's the one who will be interrupting her phone blabbering to call the cops "omg there are sportscars going soooooooooo fast that's so dangerous".

Bullshit.
Bing-freaking-o. If these guys were consciously making an effort to go that fast, they had their full attention on the road and I bet they weren't talking on their cell phones, trying to eat a sandwich, while reading the daily paper and doing those speeds. Even at 120mph, both of those cars would behave similarly to the average minivan going 60.

While it isn't the best idea in the world to push those speeds on public roads, especially where people might be meandering about, they were probably a hell of a lot safer than many other idiots out there who think it's totally acceptable to focus on anything BUT driving while they're behind the wheel of their 2 ton killing machine.

Indeed, doing those speeds is easy enough and can be done in a safe manner.

Unfortunately, it is now generally accepted that 120mph is dangerous, period.
No one comes up saying "well ... 120mph in a residential area is as wrong as it gets and should punished swiftly ... but 120mph on a clear day on a clean road in the middle of fields? that's not so irresponsible".

I've been up to around 170 on public roads and it was perfectly safe. I know my ride was in perfect shape, the road was straight as an arrow, clear skies and no one in sight. A quick burst up to 170, and backed off. Doing 120 takes a blink of an eye. No harm done to anyone, but apparently I should have my ride impounded and stolen from me by the gvt. And yet you won't catch me doing 60 through a town, I've never ran anyone over or been in any accident. Proof I pick my places to have fun? Haven't got a ticket in years. *knocks on wood*

I wish there was more measure and common sense when it comes to speeding and our judicial system.

I think the BMW driver might learn a lesson here, but the Ferrari owner probably just put in an order for a 458. And good for him!

Yeah, and so does the east coast.

Try going 120mph in VA, and see what happens to you.

Yes, this is the real issue.

Is driving 120 in a residential absolutely crazy? Yes. If a cop had been following or in pursuit would this have been ok? Absolutely. But based on only civilians testimonies over a phone and end up at this result? This just has a bad taste in my mouth. God knows Ive gone 30-33 in residential areas in some flashy cars and had people yell slow down...I can only imagine if one was actually going fast...well, I guess thats what would happen...

exactly, and 120mph is nothing, these cars can cruise at 120 and it feels like 60, and can stills top faster than most car going 60. And the "speeds up to" just means its total bullshit and they at best came close to that once, but more likely never even broke 100mph. Same for the bitch that "was almost hit" On a one way road up the mountain just means they passed her and the exhaust scared her and she wasnt happy.

An incompotant woman in a mini van, benz, or range rover her sugar daddy bought her is 100x more dangerous than any person speeding with any basic sence of driving, through in a cell phone, makeup, or bratty kids and shes death on wheels, but thats socialy acceptable by envious twats that dont have a Scud or M6

My issue is one of property rights-- it's an entirely ludicrous theft of private property, which as far as I can see was based entirely on hearsay. It's a flat out travesty of individual liberty.

The "speed kills" nonsense is another argument, which is oft discredited by anyone with more than two functioning synapses. Is 120 on a public road dangerous? Sometimes, yes. Often times, in vehicles prepared to do said speed, driven by those who are alert and reasonably skilled, it's one heck of a lot less dangerous than barreling along at 85 in a SUV with the braking power of warm cheese while gabbing on a cell phone. Though, if I called the cops every time I saw that happen, my cell bill would be approaching the GDP of a small third world country.
