Fifth Gear - Ferrari 458 Italia video review!
#11
I got to drive one before he did
. There is one thing with this review that I found a discrepancy with though... I'm an expert with the aesthetics of Ferrari's (paint, leather, etc.), but I've still got some studying to do with the engines, aerodynamics, etc. but here's what I've been taught about the Italia. Now from what I know, those "catfish whiskers" (as I refer to them) or spoilers in the front bumper don't really serve the function that we would think they serve, which is to reduce drag and increased down-force. OK I'm sure they do serve those purposes, but there's another, ulterior purpose for the "whiskers". AFAIK, they are also designed to redirect the air to flow to the rear intakes, also. The rear intakes, which are located just behind the back wheels, are designed to "welcome" this extra flow of air, thus boosting the Italia's horses (at top speeds) up to 5-8 Hp (ram air if you will).
Again, AFAIK Ferrari had this design on one of their F1 cars in the past and the board caught wind of it and declared it illegal because it was a "cunning advantage" or something like that.
