The NSX, GT-R, and 911 Turbo Blur the Line Between Sports Car and Supercar
No one really goes out shopping for a car specifically because it has a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. Rather, the people who are considering a car within this group usually have their mind made up already. Fans of Nissan’s GT-R are about as loyal as they come, rivaled only by the passion that is all things Porsche. The NSX is the new player to this game, however, and comes armed with an army of technological advancements that make the Nissan and Porsche look like a Palm Pilot.
As seen above, the first part of this video series focuses on the hard numbers. Weight and power are figures thrown around by manufacturers in order to make on-paper stats look mighty impressive. Given the GT-R’s girth, and the complexity of the hybrid powertrain in the NSX, it’s no surprise that the 911 Turbo is the lightest of the bunch. It also matches its claimed horsepower numbers rather closely. Surprisingly the GT-R is off on its horsepower rating by quite a bit, which may be blamed on poor fuel. And the NSX’s hybrid system makes testing on a dyno rather difficult.

Multiple benchmarks were measured in this video, namely the time it takes each car to get to 30, 60, 100, and 150 miles per hour. With the tests being conducted on an air-strip, it’s fair to all of the cars.
So which one will come out on top? Will Godzilla keep the crown? Will the technical wizardry of the NSX put it out front? Or will the (relatively) light-weight simplicity of the 911 Turbo do it the most favors? You’ll have to watch to find out.
