Friday Retro Rewind: TeamSpeed Gets a Shout-out from Sir Mix-A-Lot

By -

Seattle hip-hop legend pays tribute to the machines we love with a visual smorgasbord of fine luxury performance cars in classic ‘Carz’ Video.

We at TeamSpeed have been known to bump a few tracks while working on bringing the latest automotive content to you. One day we were playing some tunes on You Tube. You might say, we were lookin’ at rock videos, with knock-kneed bimbos walkin’ like hoes. Then we came across a banger. The song and video for Sir Mix-A-Lot‘s “Carz” is not only a hot track, but featured some scorching cars on set.

So, imagine our surprise when we got to the end of the video and noticed that ‘Mr. Long & Strong’ gave TeamSpeed a thank you in the end credits! We’re not worthy!

Thus, we’ve decided to talk about his slick video in a new series dubbed TeamSpeed “Music Monday.” We can think of no better way to kick it off than with a man who loves his cars as much as we do. Ladies and gentlemen, Seattle hip-hop legend Sir Mix-A-Lot. and his video for “Carz.”

Sir Mix-A-Lot - Carz - Lamborghini Murcielago

While most will know the prolific producer Sir Mix-A-Lot from his 1992 number 1 hit “Baby Got Back” he’s recorded quite a few songs about luxury and high-performance cars, including 1988’s “Posse on Broadway” and 1992’s “Testarossa.” But he went all out for his 2010 single “Carz,” where millions of dollars of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, AMGs, and more are driven hard on the runway of an airfield around Seattle.

“They call me Mister Lamborghini/See me, believe me, we be/Hittin’ them twisties/Ya’ll can’t believe these crazy SV’s big wings,” he says at the start of his song, an interpolation on Gary Numan’s “Cars.” That’s only the beginning of his name checks, though, as he rolls off Ferrari, Porsche, Bugatti, and Aston Martin throughout the affair.

There are also shout-outs to a few areas around Seattle’s Eastside (comprised of Redmond, Kirkland, and Bellevue, among others), including NorthWest Auto Salon and Benchmark Motoring (“NorthWest Auto Salon/Clean the whips, shine ’em and gone/And Benchmark makes it pound”).

Sir Mix-A-Lot - Carz

“Carz” is the perfect tribute to luxury rides, with a video that’ll get you hooked and you can’t stop staring. The song can be downloaded via Apple Music, Google Play, and your favorite streaming service.

In the meantime, you’ll want to watch the entire video. And stay for the end credits! Sir Mix-A-Lot: Thank you for thinking of us, thank you for the rockin’ tunes and killer videos, and keep driving those cars as they were meant to be driven.
