Petersen Hosting Virtual Car Week Through Aug. 15
Between August 12 and 15, the Petersen will host numerous live streams of amazing cars, interviews, auctions and so much more!
With a few exceptions, most car events just aren’t happening this year. The COVID-19 pandemic wrecked everyone’s plans for the 2020 car show season, from the Detroit Auto Show to SEMA. Even Monterey Car Week landed in the ‘rona’s crusher. No majestic rides, no fine wines, no semi-formal attire. Nothing. We can’t even visit the Petersen right now!
At least, not in person. Though its doors and exhibits are closed, the Petersen Automotive Museum is virtually open for business. Since August 12, the Petersen Car Week extravaganza’s been bringing everything we love about Monterey Car Week into our laptops, smartphones and smart TVs, all without the need for masks and social distancing.
Prior to the virtual car week, the Petersen took its fans on virtual tours of garages all would otherwise see in person during the first 10 days of August. As for the show itself, Petersen Car Week includes all sorts of content.
For example, our friends over at Rennlist are giddy for Friday, August 14. That’s when Porsche takes the reins on a day full of Stuttgart and other Germany goodness. The big event, of course, is a virtual car show by the Porsche Club of America, hosting rides from the Petersen’s Redefining Performance exhibit.
“What makes Monterey Car Week special each year is the wide variety of events held around the peninsula for enthusiasts to gather among automotive history, share their passion and experience new vehicles from global manufacturers,” said Petersen Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “Given the circumstances, we are happy to provide a new experience for global enthusiasts by offering some of the
key aspects of the week.”
Other virtual happenings during Petersen Car Week include the 2019 Sonoma Festival of Speed, an auction organized by RM Sotheby’s, and a look at some cool laps around Laguna Seca.
The whole thing draws to a close with a big day of happenings Sunday, August 16. Ford is expected to unveil a new vehicle, while the Petersen brings a virtual concours d’elegance to your eyeballs.
