Watch the LaFerrari Getting Flogged in Maranello
The Ferrari LaFerrari is perhaps the most retro hypercar that’s around right now. I say that because it’s about as raw as you can get. It doesn’t have turbos and it doesn’t have a trick AWD or all-wheel steering option. It just uses its batteries for more power and more noise. The car is an astonishing feat of engineering and one that will make your spine quiver.
That said, of the three available hypercars on the planet, none are actually for sale anymore. They’re all snapped up and gone, except for a LaFerrari that was left for testing by the crew over at Motor Trend. After putting the Porsche 918 and the McLaren P1 through their paces last month, the team was eager to get its grubby little automobile-loving fingers on Maranello’s newest ultra prancing horse.
Ferrari finally agreed to let Carlos Lago have a go in the LaFerrari, but true to Ferrari form, the company didn’t just drop off the keys and say, “Here you go.” Nope, the MT team had to fly all the way out to Maranello, wait for the Ferrari engineers to give their OKs, then proceed to play with the car on Ferrari’s own test track. Suffice it to say that the odds were stacked in Ferrari’s favor.
