McLaren is currently brokering a private deal for the sale of a 1997 F1 GTR Longtail for the price of many millions of dollars. The last time this exact machine came on the market in 2012, it was rumored to have been auctioned off for $13 million. We can only assume that it’s increased in value, but who’s to say by how much?

It’s since undergone a $187,000 full mechanical restoration, bringing it back to its original 1997 luster.

Currently under the careful watch of McLaren Special Operations (MSO), this chassis (#28R) was the 10th and final F1 GTR Longtail ever produced, making it more valuable for that reason than its actual racing accomplishments.

This car was campaigned in the 1997 FIA GT Endurance Championship by GTC Motorsport Gulf Team Davidoff. It was driven by Andrew Gilbert-Scott, Geoff Lees and Anders Olofsson, scoring points only twice during the season before being sold into retirement.

According to McLaren, this Longtail can be converted into a road-legal car, which we very much hope the new owner does. Can you imagine seeing this thing pull up to a car show?
