Is the McLaren Senna the Craziest Supercar in the World?

By -

Doug DeMuro gives us the lowdown on the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 powered Senna.

The Senna is part of McLaren’s Ultimate Series. The latter also includes the McLaren P1 and the McLaren Speedtail. McLaren says the Senna is the most track-focused supercar it has ever made. Everything about it sounds unbelievable. So how does it really handle on the road?

YouTuber and Autotrader writer, Doug DeMuro, has compiled a very thorough review of the Senna in his latest video. As the owner of a McLaren MP4-12C, he, unsurprisingly, he cherishes the supercar.

“The sensation of speed in this car is one of the craziest of any cars I’ve ever felt. It just feels so darty. I know it’s a really valuable car, but I feel so confident driving it that I don’t feel as though I’m in danger of messing anything up,” says Doug DeMuro. “[However,] it doesn’t belong [on the streets].” DeMuro thinks that it is better suited for the track as it Senna can be a very, very harsh ride.

The Senna gets a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces 790 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the power is sent to the rear-wheels. The Senna sprints from 0-60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds, and achieves a top-speed of more than 210 mph.

The Senna has been derived from the McLaren 720S, which also gets a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. However, that engine produces 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. Notably, the automotive enthusiasts have praised the design of the 720S. However, DeMuro has acknowledged that the Senna is not an aesthetically-pleasing supercar.

“The look [of the McLaren Senna] has been controversial to say the least. Some people say it’s ugly with that massive rear wing and this ridiculous front overhang. But McLaren says it’s all functional, for the very best in track performance,” says DeMuro.

McLaren will end the production of Senna after making 500 units of the supercar. The model which DeMuro has reviewed costs $1.8 million. “This car has $140,000 [worth of] options. And that includes basically everything and anything you think of. And it’s all really expensive,” says DeMuro. For instance, “the area around the center-lock wheels is painted red. This is not standard, instead this is an option. And the cost for this option [is] $3,659.” Similarly, the owner of the aforementioned Senna has ordered a carbon-fiber key-fob, which costs $2,195.

Despite all the craziness, it is impossible not to fall in love with the Senna. As per usual, DeMuro provides viewers with a thorough and thoroughly entertaining review.
