Aston Martin Takes on the SUV with the Luxe (and Pricey) 2021 DBX
Luxury automaker unveils the 542 hp DBX as their first entry into the luxury SUV market.
If we’re being honest, we just couldn’t see James Bond driving the DBX. Bond is a loyal Aston Martin man. And he might appreciate the sophisticated details, but it just doesn’t fit. While we associate Aston Martin with sexy, luxury sports cars, the times they are a’ changin’. To keep relevant in the market, Aston Martin has produced their first SUV: the 2021 Aston Martin DBX.
The company recently debuted the car at the L.A. Auto Show . At first blush, the DBX is a stunner, but doesn’t exactly stand out as an Aston Martin.
As we saw its sumptuous details and got a hint of its performance, we could see where the company made its mark. Not to mentions its very Aston Martin price tag. But the luxury SUV is an important next-step for the company to take.
“I can’t emphasize enough how incredibly exciting and significant DBX is for Aston Martin,” said Aston Martin Lagonda President & Group CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer. “Through its development alone, this beautiful SUV has already taken the company into new territories and in inspiring directions. DBX also marks a key moment…Not only representing the promised expansion of our portfolio but also signaling the start of production at Aston Martin’s second manufacturing plant.”
It is powered by the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 used in the DB11 and Vantage. This was tuned and amped up in the DBX which makes a solid 542 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft of torque. It’s top speed is 181 mph, and it hits 60 miles per hour in a mere 4.3 seconds.
From the start, the company wanted to design a roomy but refined SUV. The design of the new platform needed exceptional dynamics both on and off-road. Utilizing bonded aluminium, a construction method Aston Martin has refined through the development of its sports cars, the body structure is both very light and incredibly stiff.
The interior is true decadence. There are full-grain leather-trimmed seats, an abundance of headroom and legroom, a full-length glass panoramic roof and frameless door glass, crafted bridged center console, as well as all sorts of tech options. Additionally, there are a number of personalization options.
Okay, on second thought, this might be a good vehicle for 007. Can give chase off-road, tough engine, and still the signature elegance.
Unfortunately, all of this does come with at the base price of $189,900. The 2021 DBX will hit dealer mid-2020.
