Indonesian Military Commander and his 'fake' Richard Mille

nice try.

Indonesian Military Commander General Moeldoko Throws A Richard Mille On The Floor And Claims His Luxury Watch Collection Is All Fakes

World leaders wearing expensive watches is nothing new, nor is the backlash against them. Indonesian Military Commander General Moeldoko has been under media scrutiny lately since he has been spotted wearing a number of high-end watches, including a limited edition Richard Mille. Earlier today, when confronted by a reporter about the RM on his wrist, he exclaimed that all his watches are fakes and then threw his watch on the floor in front of the cameras. More on this story after the jump.

Moeldoko has been at the center of media attention in southeast Asia lately for reasons unrelated to his watch collecting habits, but reporters quickly jumped on the opportunity when he was seen wearing multiple expensive watches during public appearances over the last few days. Mothership.sg has pulled photos of a few of these sightings, which include an IWC Top Gun Miramar Chronograph and an Audemars Piguet Millenary of some kind. Most recently, he was spotted wearing a Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa Flyback "Black Kite," a limited edition of 30 pieces that retails for over $100,000.

When confronted about his expensive taste in wristwear, Moeldoko exclaimed "Do you think this is an original?" before eventually throwing the watch on the floor to prove his point. He further explained that this fake cost him a mere 5 million Indonesian Rupiah (about $430) and that he likes a watch because "A country can move forward if it is innovative. Every time I look at this watch, it reminds me of innovation. So, I don’t mean to show off."

Who cares. If it's real, he made money thru corruption. Which is what everyone would do if he could.
