The Gentleman's Thread: Buying Your Wife Stuff
#102
Today is my 5th anniversary with my beautiful, amazing, wonderful wife. The traditional gift for a 5th anniversary is wood and her favorite flower is the hydrangea. In fact, her wedding boquet was made up entirely of pink and light green hydrangeas. There is an area near the entrance of our house that is currently planted with rose bushes that we have been thinking about re-planting. This morning while she was out for her morning run, I rushed down to the local nursery and bought several pink and light green hydrangea bushes. I put them on the ground in the pots next to the rose bushes they are going to replace in time before she got home from her run. I was hoping to plant them before she got back, but its too hot to plant them today and they need to be planted carefully so they take hold and grow into a nice, large bushy 15 foot row of her favorite flowers. Needless to say she was completely floored by the surprise gift and practically cried from the happiness.
Often times, its the thoughtful gifts that have the most impact and meaning.

haha true, and yup it's an anniversary (2nd) + in-advance baby present
1st huuuuge congrats on the new baby! god bless
may i ask what piece from vca you got her back then?
you're absolutely right, vca is part of the big group but to me at least as a buyer and not wearer they kept their identity and the craftsmanship does come off as top notch; much like the much higher end cartier/bvlgari stuff, and not the 'entry level' pieces.
the analogy to Patek is based on that, i can spot a patek even without knowing the model just like i can spot vca jewellery on a chick even when not knowing the line.
hey, marketing those super brands must be the awesome-st job in the world!
this is the 1st time i 'notify' my wife of an upcoming present, and it happened on coincidence when i went to change a strap on my watch that we were in the same place as the VCA boutique so she went in and was interested in a watch there as well as a watch in AP; we discussed it and i chimed in, hopefully helping her realize she is more into jewellery and that if she wants a watch then she should get a "timepiece" and not a jeweller-based time-teller
btw i love what you mention of handing the jewellery down to your daughter
i feel the exact same way and have made it clear to my wife that this is what i wish for as well, and was part of the motivation for everything i bought her

Thanks so much for the congratulations - been so busy with everything. Had a friend over to help with final nursery decorations the last two evenings and just spent 7 hours today doing a birth class and tour of the hospital where we will be having our daughter - Prentice here in Chicago. Paying and sitting through that class was excellent justification to my wife for me not getting through a single baby book during the pregnancy!
About the VCA - I got her a single motif yellow gold w/ Onyx Alhambra. Modest in comparison to what you have spec'd here but it's what she wanted so I did not argue! I feel the single motif is more wearable on a daily basis than the 9 or 14. Those seem more fit for a special occasion but it all depends on personal pref and style I suppose.
The search continues for the push/anniversary/birthday present. We looked at diamond solitaire earrings but the jump from what she currently wears to something that is visibly larger is obscenely expensive. I would like to get her a yg Cartier Love bracelet but she thinks she would want to take it on and off too often... difficult one I have here :]

the single motif pendant is beautiful, i got a couple of them during the past 2yrs and i paired it with a ring one time.
this time my wife decided on the white gold/mop single size 20 motif necklace.. we liked the one with the large/medium/small but it was yg and the onyx changed the whole tone.
i thought the necklace from the Lucky line with the diff shapes and stones was beautiful .. it's in the 2nd pic, on the right .. but i think it was $20k !!
as for the next present, did you set a budget yet?
sure she wants jewellery and not a bag or something?
if i was single, in those last 2yrs, i would've kept my SL55, still bought the F360, probably got a Murci, and added a DB9/Bentley CGT instead of the G class most recently
i cannot imagine what that would have been like, surely must have been pretty fvcking awesome
but believe me and all the stereotypical tones of fathers:
10 minutes with your kid > all that for a whole 24 months
allah yetamem 3alaikom

anyone been busy and a good boy lately?
got my wife this classic caviar skin for her bday + continued present to our son's birth. people working at chanel are only second to, if not just as douchey and pretentious as those in lv.
i was there alone without my wife and fortunately i was greeted by a trainee. the rest of the 'seniors' were just staring and really pushed my buttons with their body language and seeing how they were with the chick customers at the store, but whatever i just felt bad for their insecurities to be honest
women have it real hard man, so many colours and sizes and textures to choose from yet prices are similar to watch-purchases
