Watch Winders

Someone school me on this as i know very little about them. I am in need of a watch box but in making that consideration i can't ignore a winder.

Questions:

Are they necessary?
What are the benefits (aside from keeping the mechanicals constantly moving)?
What brands should I be looking at?

Seen this and think it's very cool:

They are somewhat necessary as they extend the life of the jewels and other rotating parts in your movement - they can dry up if the watch isn't used for a while. They are also practical if you have several watches that you rotate as it's annoying to constantly wind the watches and set the time.
Orbita seems to be the unanimous choice by all high end watch owners.

I have one from Rapport:

Was given to me as a gift but is a nice piece of kit. Do like the more modern ones like you posted though.

I actually started a thread on this a while back Josh. It might be helpful to you. https://teamspeed.com/forums/watch-f...ggestions.html

I really like the one that I picked up. Very high quality for the price.

My opinion is that good winders - especially Orbita (which are the best) - are so damned expensive, I would rather take that money and just buy another watch.

But I can see their benefit if you have the extra jack.

Exactly, I hate having to reset the time.

Didn't you buy RRobert's Daytona? He's been bragging about that sale for like two months in the mod forum. Apparently you don't need a winder Josh, you just need a new one of these:

What do you guys know about these two?

I really like the appearance of this one but know nothing about the brand:

Volta Watch Winders : Swisstgallery.com : VOLTA 4 WATCH WINDER (CARBON FIBER)

This one is okay:

Kadloo Panamerica 4 Watch Winder - Watcheo.com

This is still the favourite but it is expensive:

It appears Orbita are the benchmark in the industry. Maybe I should just bite the bullet. Every time I'm bored I end up browsing winders and I do need one!
