Ode to G-Shock

I know that this is generally a luxury watch forum, but who else is just in love with these cheap plastic watches? They're ridiculously durable, waterproof and last forever. The perfect outdoor sports watch. I bought one in '01 or '02? (pic below) and still have it. Its been through the wringer! Best $30 spent on a watch ever.

This x-mas I wanted a new one so I ordered one so I got the best g-shock I could find. Titanium, solar charging, updated via atomic clock worldwide. Here is to another 10 years!

I've seen a few here on TS as well, post 'em if you've got 'em.

The original:

The new one:

My love affair with G-shocks goes all the way back to 1989, when I got my first one while in the Army. I wore one all the way up until a few years ago when I got hooked on Suunto.

I have an Omega Speedmaster Pro, and a Rolex Submariner. But they rarely see the light of day, nor have they in years. The majority of the time I have on an old Suunto that has sand encrusted in the bezel, or a G-shock.

Just how I roll yo.

My daily:

I don't have the watch habit of some here; if I have an extra 20k I want to burn it's going into a new bike.

Had one of these growing up:

I'm probably going to pick up one of these soon. Solar, atomic, indestructible.

I love G-Shocks. It all started back in ... 1996 or 97, a friend has a yellow G-Shock and used to throw it around saying "ahaaa, that's what it was built for!". Blew my mind.
Had a couple over the years.
Should get a new one.

This is a shot of me and my "lucky" Timex Ironman.
Story is that I was doing a jump from 16,500ft.
Another jumper was grabbing my wrist during a relative work formation and the watch was ripped off my wrist.

Finally found it 2 weeks later laying on the runway with only a slight scratch.
Still wear it when I run!

Cept its timex, not casio. Very impressive that it probably hit terminal velocity and landed on a runway without breaking the circuit board inside. Thats just nuts!

not a G-Shock but still a cool watch that falls into the same category.
