Antiquorum auction to benefit MS society | National Jeweler

Thought some of you might want to take part in this event as it's in support of a worthy cause.

Among the highlights of the upcoming "The Mission: MS Auction"
is this Hublot "piece unique," the "Big Bang Aero" ceramic and pink
gold timepiece designed by Michael Margolis, Hublot North America
sales director.

"New York—The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society in partnership with Antiquorum will host a watch and jewelry auction this week, the first of a planned annual event offering watch enthusiasts the opportunity to bid on timepieces while helping to support cutting-edge research and fund critical programs dedicated to the elimination of MS.

Set for Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Antiquorum's New York headquarters, "The Mission: MS Auction" will feature timepieces from over 40 watch brands, including A. Lange & Sohne, Baume & Mercier, Bovet, Breitling, Cartier, Chopard, Franck Muller, Hublot, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Richard Mille, Roger Dubuis, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin and Zenith.

Auction highlights include a Hublot "piece unique," the "Big Bang Aero" ceramic and pink gold timepiece designed by Michael Margolis, Hublot North America sales director; a Richard Mille "RM016," a large rectangular 18-karat rose gold self-winding wristwatch with variable geometry rotor; and Zenith's "El Primero Striking 10th," a limited-edition Jean-Louis Etienne stainless steel 1/10th-second chronograph.

Proceeds from the auction will support research and programs funded by the National MS Society, an organization whose mission is to create a world free of MS, a chronic disease of the central nervous system.

"The outpouring of generosity from all of the brands participating is overwhelming," Philip Duffell, founder of Mission: MS, said. "With the incredible support I have received from Antiquorum and the National MS Society, I know the auction will be a great success and it will help to make a difference to those battling MS."

The live auction will take place Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., with real-time bidding concurrently occurring on the Antiquorum Web site, Antiquorum.com. A preview will take place prior to the sale, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Also in news from Antiquorum, the auction house has announced "outstanding" results for its fall auction of "Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces," held Oct. 9 in Hong Kong.

The auction achieved a total of $5.6 million, making it one of the best auction results in Hong Kong since 2007 and confirming the increasing strength of the Asian market, Antiquorum said.

A total of 84 percent of the auction was sold by lot, with 116 percent sold by value.

The highlight of the sale was Audemars Piget's "Cabinet Watch No. 5" (above) an extremely rare platinum wristwatch with "Millenary" perpetual calendar and deadbeat seconds, power-reserve and leap-year indications, which attained $358,000. Meanwhile, a Les Freres Rochat jewel box and Cartier clock both drew strong interest and results. The singing bird jewel box, crafted in gold and mother-of-pearl, reached $273,000, while Cartier's "Petite Sonnerie Comet" clock in gold and nephrite achieved $196,000. According to Antiquorum, the model is the second most complicated Comet clock made by Cartier and is the only example with petite sonnerie, or a quarter strike, to be offered at auction.

Strong results were also achieved for unique and rare Patek Philippe enamel timepieces as well as models from Longines, Richard Mille and Daniel Roth."
