I'm not at all actually - it's about craftmanship, quality and especially resale value. You'd lose a lot less money selling a proper quality watch after a few years than if you had spent a grand on some obscure U-Boat type watch that nobody wants.

Nothing's right about any Omega

Check out Oris (some good sporty, but professional models in the range) or the Hamilton Khaki X-Mach.

Actually, I want to change my response after reading Jox's. I think you should get a Tag because that seems to be the path that every watch junkie goes through. Once you realize how terrible of a choice the Tag really was, you begin to appreciate the other luxury brands. It also helps soften the ass-raping that will ensue once you begin to spend 5+ digits for a chunk of metal whose sole job is to tell time.

I'll take you guy's word on TAG, thanks for the heads up. Jox, could you give examples of quality manufacturers in the range you mention?

Normally I don't have anything to offer in this range but we got in a nice Omega Planet Ocean in the 2K range.

Is that the orange one? Dunno if I'm sold on the color, I've gotta go look at those in person when I'm in Vegas next week.

In any case, nothing gets bought till I pass this ridiculously hard test. FWIW the damn test is $1400 to take and if I don't get past it this time I've got to go back for attempt 3. Cutting into the watch budget, lol!

+1, nothing really interesting in that price range. I'm exactly in the same position, I'd rather spend a few hundred bucks on a beater Citizen and hold off until I can plunk 5k on a JLC Master Compressor or IWC Ingenieur ...
