Louis Erard makes some really nice watches for around $1500 - $2000 but like most watches in this price range you are getting modified (or not) ETA movements that can be found in sub $1K watches. This price range is kind of no-man's-land as it isn't enough to get you in-house movements and is a bit on the high side for what you should be paying for the movements, so it comes down to materials and brand.

I just purchased a Xetum Tyndall with an elaboree-grade ETA 2895, this same movement can be found inside Bell&Ross watches, Cartier watches etc but I paid a touch over $1500 for it because it is a small independent brand so I get superb build quality and an excellent movement for a lower price point.

Point being that there are some dynamite smaller brands out there using the same innards as the sexy brands and they often times and often exceed in terms of build quality and customer service. Brands like Lum-Tec, Xetum, Louis Erard, Christopher Ward, Prometheus, Ocean 7, Nomos, Bathys, Benarus, Bernhardt and others. Heck even mainstream brands like Hamilton have some great examples at lower price points, such as the Jazzmaster or Khaki lines.

Luis Erard has some classy stuff. I came close to picking one up from Tourneau.

^That 1931 is a beauty, I also fancy the Asymetrique and La Carree quite a bit.
