Watch hunt narrowed down to three choices, thoughts?

Josh: I am not a watch expert but appreciate them, and have a couple of nice pieces. These days, as always, I am a firm believer of "bang for the buck."
For instance, I can't justify spending AP kind of money on a rubber strap that costs them .29 us cents to make in China. If you go AP, rock something in leather, or even metal as far as bracelet goes.
I like AP's alot, but hate how those cheap watch companies like "toy watch" have been biting the style with those plastic knock offs.
I think PAM (eventhough I love Italian design on all things) is a bit fad-ish.
For longevity, I'd pick the Rolex, eventhough it is the least sexy.
Also, seems like Everyone now has a Pan, or a Welder, or a U-Boat.
Have you looked at Cuervos and Sobrinhos, or Corum? I know (way diff vibes)

The movement in the AP is just a much nicer piece compared to the Rolex/Pam. Wind all three of them and you can just "feel" the difference in quality. Pam and Rolex are IMO entry level high end watches; AP is just on a different level quality wise.

I am in no position to provide a detailed explanation by any means, but I believe the history of Audemars Piguet says it all. You cannot put a trendy brand like Panerai which became popular in the late 90's and a rather bland brand like Rolex on the same level as Audemars Piguet, which has created beautiful timepieces since 1875.
If that doesn't suffice, take the three brands and compare prices. At the very least, the prices of AP should hint to the brands reputation and quality.

Very true. Rolex and Panerai are entry level watches indeed. For the most part, people who buy Rolex's have money and don't know any better. A Rolex Submariner Date is for the average person the watch of all watches. I prefer more esoteric brands.

jarod makes a good point regarding the movement, but in reality, these things are a matter of personal preference. josh, go with what tickles your fancy and in the worst case scenario, you can become like most of here and just flip it a few months down the road and get something else.

Price doesn't always reflect reputation nor quality.
