Renting a porsche in Germany
#12
Well first of all where in Germany will you be, where would you pick up the car? I might be able to help you depending on that, also how much are you willing to pay and what Porsche would you want?
Last but not least remember it is winter. I'm not home at the moment but talked to my parents who live in north Germany and they told me that they already got some snow that stays on the ground, so it is not really the best thing to go out and blast on the Autobahn in these conditions. Just let me know where you will be and I will see what I can do and also suggest an alternativ car program in case of snow.

So I'll be heading to Germany in a week, a friend and I would really like to rent a Porsche for a day just to get a real experience on the Autobahn. We'd like to rent a GT series car is possible, the issue is finding someone that rents these with insurance, and someone that will rent the car to a 20yr and 21yr old.
If anyone has a suggestion or can point us in the right direction it would be much appreciated!

Also i ask you this --- have you or your friend ever been to Germany or on the Autobahn? If not - dont put too much emphasis on getting a "GT series" car for your rental. You will be BLOWN AWAY by the speeds and the atmosphere of these roads that you will have jsut as much fun in a VW Jetta. Its not acceleration that changes in Germany - or how much HP a car has - its the abilitity to legally "hang" at high speeds and cruise the highway. A base 911 will get up to 160km just fine - not as fast as a GT2 of course - but it will get there. And then rolling for 5 minutes at that speed (feels like FOREVER to us Americans who feel like we are doing soemthing wrong hahaha) will be unreal. Trust me.
I hope this helps.

Don't get your hopes up too much about being able to blast down the Autobahn around christmas. I certainly wouldn't plan a vacation around it, traffic and road conditions can be brutal so you'll end up just being disappointed.

Did some more research and talked to a few friends and it is pretty much only privat people who lend Porsches and other high end cars to who ever is willing to pay.
Thing is, not only do you pay sometimes double the amount of the normal Avis or Sixt fee but you also don't get an insurance. So not to destroy your dream but you are much better of with a normal car and like I said before it's winter...rather get a nice Audi for example. You can still go 120 without problems...if the Autobahn is free.
Again there is a lot other things to do and see if you want a cool car related day in Germany

Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions. We are going to call Avis Germany in the morning and see what the deal with renting underage is, because they do offer rentals to those under 25.
We aren't planning our vacation around this, but we've got a free day and wanted to do something fun that we can't do here in the states. Fingers crossed that the weather is clear and dry that day.

probably wont apply though.
