My Sushi Experiences

Kram, did you ever try Brother's Sushi on Ventura (around DeSoto in Woodland Hills) around 10-15 years ago when "Goro" was the head Sushi chef. The "Carrie" rolls were legendary. Its making me hungry thinking about it

been to brother's once. it's actually pretty close to me. it wasn't for me. they had a very americanized crowd and i don't think the chef really wanted to be bothered making stuff for me.

I worked at Warner Center from 92-95 and Brothers was really, really good around that time. Goro really took the time to cater to regulars and he made some amazingly creative rolls with all kinds of beautiful, fresh shellfish. Last time I went there was at least 5 or 6 years ago, and they said Goro had retired or sold the place or something. The place was crowded and no where near as good as it used to be. Bummer.....

i was probably there about 5 or 6 years ago. the best places for me are the ones that cater to the regulars. the handful of places that i go to, i've found by chance and have developed a relationship. i also don't like to be gouged. i don't mind paying a fair price, but places think that omakase means charge you up the ass.

Brother's is still pretty good, although closed for renovation at the moment. I eat there around twice a month, but it was better when Goro was still around. And yes, the Kerry is still killer!
The one thing I like about Brother's is that they aren't shy about their portions. One of the reasons why I don't eat at Kushiyu anymore is because they give you a shitload of rice and a baby fillet and then gouge the fvck out of you for it.
