RIP so sad, just when he started his new life in the private security sector.
Former police chief killed
The former police chief of Monaco, André Muhlberger, has died in a violent boating accident in Cap d'Ail. According to initial reports, there were no witnesses to the incident and police are still searching for the boat involved.
Muhlberger was head of security in Monaco for six years until October 2012.
He was reportedly caught in boat propellers at around 6pm on Sunday afternoon while swimming back from lunch with friends at Plage Mala in Cap d’Ail.
He was on a 22-metre Mangusta boat with friends, which was anchored 300 metres from the shore. While others took a boat service from the beach to their boat, Muhlberger swam back with a friend.
The authorities were reportedly alerted after the 50-year-old’s body was spotted floating in the water. His legs and head are believed to have been severely injured by boat propellers.
Despite the intervention of the Maritime Police, firefighters and a rescue helicopter, Muhlberger died at the scene.
The woman who was also swimming at the time of the incident reportedly told police that she did not see anything because the swell was too large.
The former judicial police officer was the director of public safety in Haute Garonne in Toulouse before moving to Monaco in 2006.
- The Government of Monaco has released the following public statement ...
"The Princely Government wishes to express its deep emotion at the accidental death in tragic circumstances of André Muhlberger, former Director of Public Safety of the Principality of Monaco from 2006 to 2012. During these six years at the Department of Public Safety, André Muhlberger acted professionally and competently, maintaining public order and safety in Monaco, and was actively involved in the organisation and success of many events. The Government of Monaco expresses its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones and shares the emotion of police officers of the Principality."

Knife, tear gas..... Taser... Like I have said before, it is not a safe place anymore.
Côte d’Azur struck by weekend attacks
Crime hit the Côte d’Azur hard last weekend, with one deadly stabbing. A 21-year-old man was fatally wounded on a street in Juan les Pins early on Saturday morning.
Police have named the stabbing victim as Zacharia A. They say he was attacked at around 5.15am on Saturday 15th June in Juan les Pins. Emergency services were unable to revive the young man, who was a native of Nice.
Police have begun an investigation but so far noone has been arrested. It is believed that a scuffle broke out on a beach close to Boulevard du Littoral. The victim was then reportedly followed to rue Bricka, where he was killed. While police are sure that a knife was the murder weapon, they have also found evidence that tear gas and a Taser were also used. Five people, including one girl, are thought to be involved in the attack.
Speaking to Nice Matin, member of the National Assembly for Antibes Jean Leonetti said he deplored the violence of Saturday morning. “I am saddened and angry. Saddened because it is still Juan les Pins that is the theatre of gang clashes,” he said. Police have remained silent on whether this was a premeditated or random attack.
