Bodyguards

Many young guys are dreaming of becoming a bodyguard..... but be carefull, there are many rogue players in the industry and many dangers lurks. Take your time to read this story first.

Revealed:
This is the story of 44-year-old wannabe bodyguard Flemming Tarnow from Denmark... For eighteen months he was wanted by Interpol. But he was finally arrested and brought to court in Aalborg-Denmark, with a charge of serious fraud.

25 victims of fraud
Flemming Tarnow performed a big scam in the spring of 2012 when he lured 25 people, including a large number of former soldiers, to transfer an average of 4000 Euro to his bank account as payment for a bodyguard course in Waldzell, Austria. The course was, however, never materialized, and he disappeared with a total of around 80.000 Euro from the 25 participants.

The case began to unfold when the first handful of bodyguard students reached all the way to Billund Airport and waited in vain for Flemming Tarnow prior to their scheduled departure to Austria.

Big fat cars and fat muscles
The 44-year-old bodyguard were, according to one of the former soldiers who were cheated, Asbjørn Børgaard, "highly manipulative" when he lied to his victims to a degree, so the volunteer transferred big amounts to his account. Flemming Tarnow has at least three different facebook profiles, where he says he lives in Palma, Mallorca. From the pictures on the profiles, he has not exactly lived modestly. Big cars and beautiful women, seems to be his main interest, and he was also affiliated with the bodyguard company, WBA Bodyguard.

The Monaco link
At a private wedding at the Lake Como in Italy I meet some people from Aalborg in Denmark. The groom presented me to a mother that had some concerns about her sons future bodyguard career. He had been offered at private course by some guy and wanted my advice. I said, as I alway do when we talk about a young guy like this; that her son should either continue in the military and then later Special Forces or become a police officer and then after that seek to the Intelligence Service Protection Unit. After some more small talk she thanked me and I did not think much about it until our XXXX* - HQ ( * name has been changed ) some months later was contacted by Interpol, asking if we had any kind of cooperation with or knowledge of a certain Flemming Tarnow. As I have never even heard about him before, that was easy to dismiss. It later turned out that this was the same guy who had offered the bodyguard course mentioned above. He had guaranteed his "students" work after the course... and yes he mentioned OUR branch in Monaco as a almost certain future employer.... That might have been one of his biggest mistakes, as WE were afterwards able to locate him and pass the information on... I was furious.

We don't hire people "from the street", guys with just some sort of a diploma or a course. My old friend knew this and that was why he contacted us. Our personnel is approved by the authorities; you would need to have Government Intelligence background or the likes of British SAS, German GSG 9, US SS, The French Foreign Legion or Military Special Forces.... just to be considered.

The arrest
Flemming Tarnow had until his arrest been on the run from ex friends, acquaintances, us and not least, Danish and international police since March 2012. The final arrest was based on an "not so anonymous tip", that the 44 year-old "playboy" was at a specific address on the Spanish holiday island of Gran Canaria. "We advised the Spanish police on the case, and they could without any drama arrest him. Then we sent a couple of officers down to pick him up", says one of the investigators in the case, police Commissioner George Birger Jensen, from the police in Aalborg.

Flemming Tarnow has since he was 18, has been based in particular Spain and worked in whole world as a bodyguard. Three days after his arrest he was transferred to Soto del Real prison a few kilometers from the Spanish capital, Madrid. Here he was until he was picked up by two officers from Danish Police. The police have on several occasions been in telephone contact with the man, however, repeatedly he broke promises himself to return to Denmark. - When he would not do what he promised, we had to do it the hard way for him, which was the culmination of the international arrest warrant. Flemming Tarnow, originally from Grenaa, Denmark but has lived in two different locations in Spain and partly in Mallorca, partly in Gran Canaria, was not even given time to pack a bag when Spanish police picked him up. Thus he met up preliminary hearing wearing shorts, t-shirt and tennis shoes.

Flemming Tarnow rejected that he should have cheated many bodyguard participants: "People did not pay what they should, and tha is the reason why their papers have not been sorted on time" he said.

Also charged with fraud in the UK
The explanation he maintained in court in Aalborg - Denmark. He said it was the participants' own fault that they never completed the course at World Bodyguard Association, WBA. The accused's refusal fraud charges are weak against the 25 participants' statements, says prosecutor Jette Rubin.

English police have ALSO sought Flemming Tarnow. He was supposed to appear at a hearing at Grimsby Crown Court in February 2008. Here he was also charged with fraud. Whether the fraud charges from England enforced has not been possible to ascertain.

The conclusion
One thing is for sure, there are a lot of dishonest people in the world.... and it is a small sad story, as these young guys will never get their money back.

BUT there is definitively a lesson be learned... To have good judgement is essential in order to become a bodyguard. Besides his lacking skills and absence of government experience etc, Flemming Tarnow does not even remotely LOOK like a professional bodyguard. Lets make a small checklist:

● Totally out of shape

● Not able to blend in anywhere

● As a professional bodyguard you need to be a presentable, forward thinking, adaptable, well presented and dynamic individual.

Fail, fail and fail........ and the list continues, but you get my point.

Flemming Tarnow does NOT fit the profile above. And you don't need my experience to see that. So my conclusion is: I am not sure any of these guys would have made it as a professional bodyguard anyway... they overlooked the obvious......

Here are a few pics from the Zenvo factory. The extremely dirty Bentley had a few adjustments, after a long drive through all Europe.

The specialists at Zenvo made a custom Racing Exhaust for my one off Bentley Supersports 700. Quality was of another world..... The sound was just INSANE. The mechanics at Bentley Monaco were in chock first time I arrived for some service. They had never hear anything even remotely close to this....

Bodyguard as an "accessory"

It is not only diplomats, actors, rap stars, automobile manufacturers etc that are using our services, but also other types of VIP's.....

Bentley
Some of my favorite clients are the Russians. It is quite interesting tasks, in many ways.... Often we might use one of my sport or luxery cars instead of the "A4 type" Mercedes S-Class / RR limousine. Either alone or as escort car.

And I can promise you, I was not the only one that liked the Bentley....

No unfortunately not. I wanted to buy a GoPro for years in order to shoot some clips of my cars and others I drive, but never got around to it.

Partly explanation is that I am "allergic to cameras" when I don't work....

But I think I saw clip somewhere, I will try and see if I can find it.

Monaco hosted INTERPOL General Assembly

The 83rd General Assembly took place in the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, 100 years after the Principality hosted the first in 1914.

Opening the conference, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco said the evolution of crime and criminal organizations, since his great-grandfather Prince Albert I hosted the first International Criminal Police Congress, means INTERPOL’s role in coordinating the world’s police has become more important than ever before. More than 1,000 delegates from 166 countries are attending the General Assembly to discuss strengthening law enforcement institutions.

With continued technological development creating more opportunities for transnational crime, the need for global police co-operation is important as ever. As a reflection of the changing nature of criminality, topics for discussion during the week include ways to prevent terrorism, cybercrime and the trafficking of drugs.

During the opening ceremony, the President of Interpol Mireille Ballestrazzi underlined the great steps that police forces have taken to combat crime and noted that all involved should be extremely proud of what Interpol has become. “Faced with these new threats, law enforcement agencies have mobilised. They have become better organised, better equipped, better trained and more professional. In short, they have adapted, making the best use of technical and scientific advances such as centralised files, communication systems, monitoring devices and protective equipment,” revealed Ballestrazzi. However, the president also acknowledged that international crime syndicates have prospered in a fertile terrain created by technology and highlighted three of the main areas which are being targeted by her organisation. “The terrorist threat has never been stronger, while cybercrime is spreading throughout the virtual world. Our environment and the health of our populations is also threatened by those traffickers seeking to profit,” said Ballestrazzi. The increasing threat of terrorism was discussed by a number of speakers during the opening ministerial meeting of the General Assembly on Tuesday. Particularly prevalent in deliberations were the wars involving militants in Syria and Iraq.

“The threats are more serious than ever before. We must face terrorists with considerable resources who hide behind the mask of religion” commented France’s Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve. These sentiments were echoed by Jan Jambon, the Vice Prime Minister of Belgium, who reinforced the need for co-operation between the 190 member countries of Interpol, to identify jihadist recruiters and bring terrorists to justice. Interpol resources such as a global database of over 43 million lost and stolen travel documents play a fundamental role in the location and subsequent identification of terrorist subjects who attempt to travel under false names. Several speakers reinforced Bernard Cazeneuve’s theory that terrorists are better funded than ever before. Iraq’s representative at the conference noted that the Internet has allowed terrorist groups to access funding more easily, due to anonymous money transfers, and in doing so highlighted a key issue for Interpol; cybercrime. “Cyberspace is a new realm to be policed, one with no borders,” commented Tsyoshi Yoneda, Japan’s Commissioner General. “Each country has a responsibility to work with their financial institutions to conduct investigations into cyber criminals. This is an individual responsibility but countries must work together to share information,” continued Yoneda.

Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chee Hean and Rajnath Singh, India’s Home Minister highlighted another key issue pertaining to the Internet. Social media is now a key way to radicalise the young population and spread fanatical views. Social networks are also increasingly used to incite violence and destabilise national governments. As sites such as Facebook are readily available across the world, Interpol’s organisation is needed to co-ordinate national police forces on an international scale and track down extremists. The trafficking of drugs is widely viewed as the most profitable crime globally, worth an estimated $360 billion annually according to Worldometers statistics and was a key topic during the opening ministerial meeting. Western world markets are the most profitable for traffickers who often grow and package drugs in developing countries and ship them to the USA and Europe. The importance of Interpol in combatting this trend can't be underestimated. “40% of all drugs seized in the European Union last year came as a result of co-operation between Spain and Colombia’s police forces,” said the Spanish delegate at the conference. Collaboration between member countries is also the only way to crack down on the use of transit countries, which lack strenuous border controls to search for illicit substances.

Three of the most important resolutions as I see it were:

1. Increasing collaboration with the public and private sectors. This is something we have been waiting for. Many times we have the "know how" and more advanced equipment than the governments. The private sector might be a very strong contributor in the future.

2. INTERPOL signed a Cooperation Agreement with the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (left) regarding access to databases on stolen passports and vehicles.

3. INTERPOL signed a Headquarters Agreement with Argentina, which hosts an INTERPOL Regional Bureau.
