Travelling to California. any recommendations?

Hi mates,

my brother, a friend, and myself will be staying in california for a couple of days in august and september.
Our short trip starts in San Diego (august 20th), and ends in Las Vegas (return flight: September 4th).
The following locations are on our visiting schedule:

San Diego
La Jolla
Carlsbad
Laguna Beach
Long Beach
Santa Monica
Hollywood
Las Vegas.

All we have so far is a flight and sort of a list with hotels. Namely, we intend to stay at Andaz or W Hotel (SD & Hollywood), and the Viceroy (Santa Monica).

Since we are not at all familiar with the area, we wonder if you could recommend us any good places to go.

What we are currently looking for are good places to eat, nice hotels (especially in las vegas) as well as good bars and clubs. Generally speaking, the places to be.

Furthermore we are very interested in cars and architecture.

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards from Switzerland.

When you are in Santa Monica, third street promenade is a must.

Lexus Magazine has a good road trip article for the Laguna area that recommends a few activities - like the Marconi Automotive Musuem. They also suggest checking out Orange Hill Restaurant - which my cousin who lives out there also says is good.

PCH, Malibu, and The Rock Store

The Rock Store

Hike over Runyan Canyon for some amazing views (both girlies and city vistas).

Not much in the way of interesting architecture here IMO.

La Jolla is my favorite spot in socal. The empress hotel is cool. Walking distance to the shops/beaches. Eat lunch/dinner at Georges at the cove. Awesome view, pretty reasonable food. Make a reservation. Brockton Villa is famous for breakfast and also has a great view. Most of the nightlife is on prospect street.

Vegas, the Wynn/Encore is nice. XS at encore is the best club in Vegas. If you want to go off strip, the Red Rock casino is awesome, has a great pool and a good club (Cherry) as well.
