Heading to Hong Kong
#15
Hey,
I'm guessing that you're probably in Hong Kong right now. Enjoying it much?
I lived in Hong Kong from 2000 till 2003 so I know some places you could go to see, however I'm guessing that quite a lot has changed since I left. Nonetheless, here are some tips:
A lot of fun bars and clubs where expats and locals alike tend to go is in Lan Kwai Fong. The place is relatively condensed so just head where the people are going and I'm sure you'll find a nice place. Otherwise, you could also head to Wanchai or Soho.
If you want to get out of the 'busy and hectic' life on Hong Kong island you could head to several places. Head out to Lama Island in the southwest of Hong Kong and you'll see a completely different world to that of Downtown and Kowloon. If you'd rather not get on a boat you can also go down to Stanley and visit Stanley market for some cheap (knockoff) bargains. Mongkok and Nathan road in Kowloon also have this, and they mostly specialize in technological stuff.
If luxury shopping is your thing, you can head to several different places. There's Pacific Place on Hong Kong island, Harbour City 700 (700 stands for the number of stores, I lived above there for 3 months) on Kowloon or head down to Central to the IFC shopping mall. If you just stroll around or ask around you'll figure it out.
Then there's the Peak... fun for the skyline if there isn't too much smog around but other than that it's very touristy. You could head to causeway bay for the beaches or to Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay (preferably with a taxi or personal transport of some sort) to seek out even quieter beaches and pristine green untouched landscapes. There's not much there in terms of action, but having lived in Sai Kung, you feel as though you've entered some rural village.
I can give more tips if you have any questions
Have fun in Hong Kong
