L.A. Guys... Good Indian food?

So the wifey likes Indian food, I don't but for her sake I eat it every once in a while... Any Indian food places that you guys like around LA?

Preferrably a decent place to go sit down and have a nice meal...

Current suggestions (comments welcome):

Akbar Cuisine in venice
Nirvana (heard the scene/drinks are good, food is not)
Chakra
Bombay Palace
Clay Pit in brentwood (close to home, never tried it)

I'm clueless here as I don't love indian food and don't know what makes it good or bad.

Help thanks

NAWAB across from WI Simonson on Wilshire Blvd. The inside of that place sucks but the food is good.

chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo FTW

Oh man, I'm really craving some Indian food right now. There are only a handful of Indian places in MN and luckily there is a really good place a few miles from my parents house. Damn, now I'm hungry...

Bombay Cafe on Pico is pretty good for a higher class Indian restaurant. Lal Mirch in Studio City is my favorite.

This place is EXCELLENT. Kind of an odd location in a small strip mall in Redondo Beach, but the food, service and ambience is EXCELLENT. Last I checked it had a food rating of 25 or 26 on Zagats.

Welcome to Addi's Tandoor - Fine indian Cuisine

Anarkali on Melrose just east of La Brea is awesome.

It's been my experience that certain places have certain dishes that are fantastic, and everything else tends to be mediocre to sub-par.

I like the Chicken Makhni at Taste of India on the corner of Topanga and Ventura. Goes well with naan or Chicken Biryani, depending on how big your appetite is.

I'm going to try some of the other places mentioned in this thread though.

If you do decide to try Addi's Tandoor in Redondo, I have always had the best meals by going with the suggestions of the excellent wait-staff. They are very good at guiding you towards an experience that will be best suited to your tastes and tolerance for spicy-ness.
