I guess they bought the tooling and technology after the demise of Dymag who invented the CF wheel rim.
There were quite a few breakages of the centres which caused a lot of angst, Dymag changed material from magnesium to an alloy which they called magnalium which was an alloy containing aluminium and magnesium IIRC but still I heard of fractured centres.

It was the different flexing of the materials, metal and CF which apparently was causing the breakages.

I remember turning up to Manthey's facility in Meuspath with my GT2 proudly wearing its Dymags and swiftly getting a stern lecture from Manthey's head PR guy about how dangerous they were and how they are illegal to use in Germany due to lack of TUV etc and how the Police would impound my car if I got stopped !

I understood from Dymag that the lack of TUV wasn't due to anything technical it was because a whole new set of specifications would have to be drawn up since the CF wheels were so different to metal wheels and that there was a distinct lack of interest from TUV to want to "help" a UK company bring such a revolutionary product into the German market when said market already had plenty of perfectly good German alloy wheel manufacturers.....

From a driving perspective the CF rimmed wheels are simply superb, they weigh about the same as the high end alloy wheels (like BBS FI and OZ superforgiatas) but it is the lightness of the rotating outer mass, the rim/barrel, having a lower gyroscopic effect which makes the difference it makes the steering and feel so awesome, the car would literally "dance", and the same car with the equally light (actually marginally lighter) BBS FI alloys does not have that same feeling.

I really love the CF concept and wish these guys the best and if they persevere and obtain the TUV that would be awesome.

The CF2 are NOT made from Dymag tooling and use none of the Dymag IP. The CF2 barrels are designed and made from scratch exclusively for HRE and they're manufactured in Germany. The failures Dymag experienced had nothing to do with the carbon. HRE successfully used Dymag carbon rims for our first Carbon Series in 2009 with absolutely no issues but we used our own forged aluminum center designs.

We have already discussed and shown the new CF2 to TUV officials and they expect TUV certification to proceed without issue as they are finalizing appropriate carbon specifications that we fully expect to pass.

Be curious how many will be sold. Just thinking about the hostile environment wheels are subjected to in driving would make it tough to keep the wheels perfect using that material. Light yes. Rugged…not so much.

Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing ? Dymag spent a lot of time and R&D getting the CF barrels right, I would have expected/hoped some of this knowledge was transferred to the new manufacturer ?
